Epoxy floor coating can turn your concrete floors into magnificent works of art that are also durable and easy to maintain. There's a lot to learn about this special coating that has so much to offer. Read on to learn 3 things you didn't know about epoxy flooring.

What is epoxy flooring?

Epoxy is a liquid that is carefully and evenly poured on a concrete floor. Many people imagine this epoxy flooring as a good way to get the most out of their garage  when they want a nice-looking floor. However, a lot more people these days are deciding to just rip out the carpet and padding, wood floors, tile floors and other flooring. Then they take it down to the cement. When the epoxy is carefully poured onto the floor, it will self-level, unless the floor is uneven. More epoxy may need to be applied to areas where there will be a lot of use. Once the epoxy has dried, you will see that it has given the concrete a very nice-looking shine.

What can you do look-wise with epoxy?

You can paint the concrete before staining it and you can paint it any way you want. You can paint it a solid color, or paint it in black and white checkers pattern, Or, you can even paint floor games on it, like a checkers and chess board in the middle, or even tic tac toe. If you want, you can paint a beautiful scene on it, such as dragons soaring through the sky, or sea life swimming under your feet. The epoxy will go over the paint and give the whole floor that shiny look while the paint adds your character to the room. Some people are now putting ripped up brown paper bags on the concrete strategically and then applying the epoxy over it.

What are some of the biggest benefits you might see with epoxy flooring?

The most obvious benefit will be that fantastic shine. However, epoxy also makes the floor much easier to sweep and you can clean it with a mop, just like the other floors in your home. Epoxy is strong, so you don't have to worry too much about it, but as with anything, you don't want to abuse it. With the ability to put epoxy on the concrete, you will be able to have a great time around your house looking for rooms you want to fix the floors in!
